SPONSORSHIP TIPS!
- Don't let the state line stop you - At The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio (about an hour away), if you are a Michigan high school student (not including Monroe County) and have a 3.0 GPA or above, there is no out-of-state surcharge.
- File a FAFSA - The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can help you get federal and state aid to pay for college, in addition to scholarships. Learn more at fafsa.ed.gov.
- Apply for scholarships early and watch deadlines - The sooner you apply for scholarships, the better chance you have of getting the most money. The University of Toledo recommends high school students apply for admission by January 5, 2009 to get the maximum award package.
- Check for additional scholarships at the college/university - Many times, the scholarships you learn about in your admission packet are only the ones offered through the Office of Admission. Check to see if other departments or programs offer scholarships to entering students. The University of Toledo has many you can read about at http://financialaid.utoledo.edu/entering_freshman_scholarships.htm
- Be sure you submit all needed materials for scholarships - Some schools may require essays, letters of recommendations, transcripts, and more. The University of Toledo, on the other hand, requires a completed application, $40 application fee, test scores, and transcripts to apply for admission scholarships. Make sure you are familiar with all the scholarship requirements so you have everything turned in on time.
